I tried to help Val set-up her Mac laptop so it would talk to her Netgear wireless router. What I hadn't realised was that you don't necessarily need a PC connected to the router in order to access the router wirelessly from elsewhere - you just have to configure the router correctly in the first place. I suppose that's logical really, but I'd always assumed that you needed a 'master' PC that was physically connected to the router - Doh!
is a learning
So, I've learned something today about PCs (and that's a good thing!)
Val now has her Netgear router plugged into the mains in the downstairs study and she can now access the internet from anywhere in the house - interestingly, I can access it too, two doors away - albeit a very poor signal.
