After breakfast we all decided to head into Ripon as planned. Just as we arrived, it started to rain and that’s how it stayed for most of the day.
We had a quick look round the city before heading for the Cathedral – and it was worth the visit – probably the best one we’ve seen in ages!
After a thorough look round, we headed to a nearby cafe for a drink and a nibble. We then headed out to Lightwater Valley – a combination of shopping area and theme park. As we approached the car-park, it was pretty full, so maybe that was a good sign! Actually, it wasn’t! The whole place looked past its prime (probably not helped by the deteriorating weather), so we had a very quick look round and headed back to the car. The rain was now falling quite heavily, so we drove back to the Cottage for a ‘leftovers-lunch’ of soup, crisps, bread and cheese.
For the rest of the afternoon, we chilled-out and then started to get packed (as we’ve got to be out by 10am tomorrow). The rain got much worse in the afternoon, so our planned evening walk around the Abbey was put on hold.
Another ‘left-overs’ evening meal has finally freed the fridge for the next guest, with only a few yoghurts remaining- mission accomplished!
All-in-all, it’s been a good break, although the weather, on the whole, has been quite disappointing - that limited us a bit during our stay. Having said all that, we’d certainly come back again, as Fountain’s Abbey itself is reason enough on its own.
