Family Holiday – Day 5

Now that’s what I call rain – could it possibly be a Bank Holiday?

We’re down to just eight for breakfast this morning, and on today’s menu: a full English fry-up!

Ralph and Karen arrived just before 11.30. After introductions all round, plus teas and coffees, we headed off to the local National Trust property: Calke Abbey - that’s the one that doesn’t have an Abbey and never has had!

In spite of the crappy weather, the place was packed and we decided to have lunch first and tour the House afterwards. I’m glad we were inside as the weather didn’t really improve. The House was just as we remember it, and unusual in that NT have decided to leave it ‘as-is’ without refurbishing it – a good decision in my view as it reminded us of what the place used to look like.

After a thorough walk-round, we headed back to the Farmhouse, hoping to stop-by the local shop to pick-up some tea-bags. No such luck  - it was shut!

We finished off the day back at the Farmhouse chatting over tea, coffee and cake. Ralph and Karen left around 5, bound for home and the rest of us chilled-out for the rest of the evening doing not very much at all.
