The Shuckburgh Arms, Stoke Doyle – yum yum!

The Shuckburgh ArmsWe’d all had very busy weeks, so it was great to be able to meet-up with D and V for a meal. This time, we chose The Shuckburgh Arms  in Stoke Doyle near Oundle. David had had it recommended to him, so we thought we’d give it a try.

On arrival, we noticed it was quite a small place, and it was already busy. We were given the option of going to the Bar first or straight to our table – we chose the latter.

There were two menus – a la carte and the ‘specials’ (which offered ‘deals’ for a fixed price) but bizarrely, some items were on both. Anyway, we all chose pretty quickly and after a while we were soon tucking into our starters. First impressions were good and we really enjoyed the food.

Then mains arrived, and the first thing we noticed was the size of the portions – massive! These were equally delicious and had a real home-cooked feel about them. Even I was feeling very full! But, in spite of that, I ventured into pudding territory – and that was delicious too.

By now we were all feeling very full and very tired and although it took an age to get the bill, it was worth the wait as the ‘numbers’ were so attractive. Check this: 3x2 courses + 1x3 courses + drinks all round, twice – total bill: £71.10! Amazing value for four people! – probably the cheapest we’ve eaten out in a restaurant for a long, long time.

We all agreed that we’ll be coming back again...and again! in the future.
