Holiday - Day 1 - Landing at San Paulo

Hhhhmmm, not a bad night's sleep on the plane, but my efforts to get extra blankets for each of us was a major challenge. Shame on you BA for your shoddy customer service!!!!

Food was good though!

We landed at Sao Paulo to let many of the passengers off. This gave us an opportunity to pop upstairs to chat with Ralph and Karen and catch-up. Twenty minutes later, we were ready for take-off. I took the opportunity to swap seats with Ann so I could use her AV system to watch a film. No luck as the system didn't want to show any films. Once again a 'black mark' for BA for not sorting out the problem resulting in me having to have a serious chat with the Cabin Services Director. Anyway, at least we got a comments form to fill in!

We landed in Buenos Aires at 10.35 local time (although this was confusing initially as it took BA three attempts to get the local time announcement right - surely is wasn't their first visit too!)

The airport was heaving, although Esteban our driver was quickly found. A short drive of forty minutes or so to the hotel - the wonderful 'Alvear Palace'....

Wow! what a hotel!! It's beautiful. No time to check in as the plane was late landing and our city tour awaits at 12 noon. Our Guide is Alex, a local, with his driver, er Alex!

The weather is pleasantly warm if a little a humid. Alex gives us a really good feel for the place - the people, the shops, the culture. We visit the burial place of Eva Peron, Buenos Aires' local herione and we even get to take coffee in Buenos Aires' oldest coffee shop. Lovely! We also found some local dancers entertaining the crowd with their dancing of the Tango.
After three hours or so, I found that I was becoming tired and so was Ann, so we took a last look around the immigrant area of the town and then headed back to the hotel.

We were all knackered, but after a bath/shower and a change of clothese we were ready to take on the night-life and more especially some food! We went to a local restaurant just 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Ralph had veal, whilst we tucked into the steak. It was, as you'd expect, excellent! Good value too - the bill came to 300 Pesos, that's around 50 pounds for the four of us including dessertand a bottle of wine, water and a salad starter.

Off to bed at around 9pm...
